Nadine Wordsmithery within a fresh combination of styles. A bit rock'n'roll, some folk, a dip of country, singer-songwriter vibes and even soundtrack. Those imperfections make it real to me.

Punch it Up! 02:14
Punch it Up! - February 1, 2021 Here goes nothing! By nothing, I mean something By something, I mean everything Anything goes Ears and eyes, I know I sense the feeling, here we go CHORUS: Gonna break it down Going to punch it up Let it roll around Until we've had enough Then rewind and we'll play it all again Metronomic Go Supersonic! Honey, drop the beat The basis for this melody is to chase away the melancholy Goodness Gracious Golly! I believe! Bang! Boom! Hiss! Clang! Jump! Bliss! Press play/record, we can't miss! It winds me up, aligns me right Calibrate it until it seems alright Maybe I am biased or over-biased but I think it sounds just fine. Tell them, “We're alright!”

Adeline v2.0 (Regrets and Misdirection) - February 1, 2021 Adeline, I am contemplating life Adeline, points of space and time Dry rosé on a sweet summer evening Poetry on my tongue Decades have come, Decades have gone It has been a long time... Coming. A few short trips around the sun But if I could do it all over again CHORUS: I would have brought a map I would have brought a compass Would have brought a knapsack filled with supplies 'Cause took a wrong turn... back in the nineties I got lost in the middle of the aughts But tonight I've bought into the moment I suppose ought to forget Adeline, I am contemplating life Adeline, points of space and time All the regrets and misdirection Bitterness on my lips Friends will come and friends will go It has been a long while... Since I've seen you Revolve, rotate, the vastness of space But if I could do it all over again... All the regrets and misdirection Accept the continuum of space and time Adeline

Old Mixtape 03:10
Old Mixtape – February 9, 2021 Hey Yeah... I know it's been a time Still got chevy, You want to go for a drive? For old times' sake? Maybe new romance? I quit drinking but I still dance Just like we used to, all those years ago CHORUS: Yeah, I'm a little rough around the edges And rusty on my romantic lines But I can still dance all night And I'll hold your hand if you hold mine I still have that old mixtape That you made me on our first date Cassette player still works just fine This pick up truck, it's like it'll never die Some things never change, but some things do So... What time should I pick you up? I know I may be pushing my luck Asking for one more chance again To forgive all my previous sins Even a stubborn man like me can change Hey yeah, I know it's been a time Would you sit next to me and go for a drive? Slide straight to the middle seat Please stay right next to me.
4.
Precious Sanity –February 9, 2021 Oh precious sanity Won't you come back to me? Calloused fingers on strings Muscle memory Melodies writing Themselves again CHORUS: What are the origins? Where did is it originate? You'd think I'd know what I was doing But I rarely do Inspiration come to me Limitations be damned Damned if I do Damned if I don't Pen to paper, paper to pen Ink stains on my hands Meditate on the task at hand No thoughts in my head I've reached nirvana, I surely have Blank slate, final state Then back to reality More practice, I must need Waiting on the day, to get some clarity I wait and wait and wait... and then wait and wait and wait A patient man's game, a game for the sane Oh my precious sanity Won't you come back to me?

Favorite Imperfections – February 23, 2021 I may never sing in perfect pitch May never snap quite to the grid Might never have a radio hit But if I did... It'd be a little loose Might be a little pitchy Just like it was back in the sixties When they hit it hard They made it swing for us Or push the tempo in the chorus I put the classic records on I hear all the things that went wrong Those imperfections are my favorite parts Love to hear... When it gets a little loose Might get a little pitchy Like the 70s, 60s, 50s Might have a little crackle Might have a little hiss Not quantized with perfect pitch It ends up a little loose Might get a little pitchy Those imperfections make it feel real to me.

Plastic Cups of Whiskey Plastic Cups of Whiskey – February 2021 Plastic cups of whiskey Cheers to the ending of a year Forgot to buy the champagne, stemware is packed away my dear But there wasn't much to celebrate this year CHORUS: Thought life would be different in the future Like I was promised as a child Technology, promised to make our lives easy Instead of connect, managed to drive us all apart Shake another drink in the tumbler As you rattle off a string of random thoughts Time square looks so different, but it's not just NYC So does Main St and the grocery store Could I whisk you away? In another lifetime, perhaps I could've Pandemic in full-effect! Travel? Just a past relic And we can't just get up and leave I thought life would be different in the future Like I was promised as a child... But I'd trade the thought of flying cars To chat and drink at our corner bar Forget any thought of jet packs To have our boring old lives back Last glass of whiskey my dear..... Cheers to living in spite of all our fears

Short Days Seem So Long – February 5, 2021 It was a cold day in a small Midwestern town Wind chill was five below Still went outside to shovel the drive Because it's just something we have to do CHORUS: The days of my youth, I'd stay out all day in the snow but... The older I get, the more I understand, what it means to feel it in your bones Oh oh oh Oh oh oh Early morning only darkness to be found Frost on the windows again Creak and moan, chilled to the bone Better put an extra layer on Eventually, the sun will come around With her warm rays upon my face How I long for the springtime thaw Surround myself with new life I am dreaming of the thaw These short days seem so long Just another cold day in a small Midwestern town

Luxuries & Finery – February 9, 2021 She walked into an office right off of music row Eyes wide and dreams in tow 30,000 dollars for that couch? That's a nicely tailored suit she thought Cost more than any car I've ever bought CHORUS: Gold Records on the wall is what she sees Luxuries and finery Finds its way in the industry But not always for the one that's on the stage Open mics and songwriters in the round Never a shortage, talent always abounds Wish this green room had a couch Whiskey on the rocks, she drinks Clears her throat and any doubt she thinks She scrolls through celebrity news Reports on little everything that they do Surrounded on a couch in VIP In a club or on the street The future? Is this what I want to be? Cult of celebrity Luxurious finery Maybe it's not for me But she'll sing for you... And you'll feel safe In your tiny little house On your secondhand couch In a neighborhood far away from music row.

Metaphors & Allegories – February 20, 2021 "Is there any wisdom you have for me... For dealing with these thoughts of grief?" You said, “Every window is just a door to a thief.” "You can lock all of your doors Swallow your only key No matter what you do, they're going to get in" CHORUS: I said, “I don't really know what that all means?” I appreciate your metaphors and allegories But I'm not sure they make as much sense as you think? But maybe they do? Advice a wise man once told me Well, technically it was a wise woman She said, “you sleep in the bed that you make.” "So, make sure your corners are tight And have a pillow you like And make sure to wash your sheets regularly." "Sometimes you need to figure out Appropriate machinery to push them out A bulldozer or front-loader for your mind Once upon a time, a long time ago I sought truth and all I know You can catch a glimpse in rhymes and parables" Even when you are not really sure what they mean You can find some truth in similes, metaphors and allegories Yeah, I guess that makes some sense to me? I mean, maybe it's true.

Art House Film How many years has it been? I saw you in my dreams again. You look like you hadn't aged a day. You were wearing your favorite shirt By now it should be old and faded But in my dream, still vivid and bright It is like time stands still Like you were captured on film With a date in the corner but remain timeless In my dream, you never speak Still I wait for you to tell me something But every time you open your mouth, I awake I'm not really sure what it all means 3am, staring at the ceiling Eyes close, zoom out for an aerial shot What is this movie? What is the plot? Let's move the story-line along Am I the only one with lines? Why am I screaming all the time? Feels like an art house film, so avant-garde You enter stage right The same place you always stand You open your mouth and I awake.

A Song for the Afterlife – February 2, 2021 A song for you? Could I write? I'd like to write a song for you, but I can't. Just too much to put on my plate Too many roadblocks in the way Too much heartache, too much hurt Can't dredge these feelings up again Death has a way of holding on To the living with her talons tight. When I see you in the afterlife Sing with me one more song You'd say, “Songwriting can be cathartic... For those that never feel like they belong” Melodies come from the beyond. With words and pictures clinging on. For the heartbroken, for the depressed Ah, the ones that I've known best “My people, my people.” You'd say If you were still here with us today A song for you for the afterlife? A song for you? I would like to write.

Melt into the Ether – Feb 26, 2021 If I die before I wake... You could take anything you want because I'd be dead If I don't see another day... You can give all these songs away to my friends Everyone gets their number called When we're gone, we're gone Float into the great beyond Or melt into the ether, become one Don't cry for me... Just say good-bye... Just say good-bye or sing along.

about

This is an album for people who have fondness for the flawed, who find intrigue in imperfections and seek magic in the mundane. Stylistically, it weaves from rock to folk to ambient. Lyrically, it is like overhearing a conversation between old friends telling stories, sharing snippets of dreams and whispering secrets softly into the darkest night.

These songs were all written and recorded in the moments between being a “learning coach” for remote school, teaching online music lessons, shoveling snow and making lunch for my family. A small group of very talented musicians recorded additional parts for the project remotely.

The topics range from life/death, the creative/recording process and many fictional short stories. Check out the song notes for lyrics, musician credits and notes about what sparked the song.

My introduction to recording was sitting in my parent's basement breaking down songs and punching play/record, experimenting and listening back to the tapes with friends. I am still chasing moments of inspiration and sharing songs with my friends.

Favorite Imperfections is a collection of songs that I wrote and recorded for a songwriting challenge called February Album Writing Month. FAWM 2021 was my 14th year participating in this challenge and these songs would not exist if not for the love and support of the wonderful people of this beautiful songwriting community.
