about

A song about Michigan's weather, my 22month old daughter's bedtime routine and my fear of floods.

I started the song in my head while laying on my daughter's floor waiting for her to fall asleep at about 11:30pm on January 31st, which morphed into Midnight on Feb 1st very easily. Wrote the song the old fashion way, with a pencil... in a songbook that one of my students made for me.

Recorded on a student model classical guitar in one-take. I was sick and could only talk for about 10 minutes before I lost my voice, so the fact that I made it through the song was a feat in and of itself...

lyrics

A Million Lullabies - February 1, 2013

Thunder sounds, January
Rain like sheets on your window
In your bed I hold you tight
We sing every song you know

CHORUS:
Fell asleep and dreamt
Floodwaters to my neck
But I'll hold you safe over my head
Cross my heart
Hope not to die
I'll love you 'til the end of my time

Jolt awake, howling wind
Get out of bed, tuck you in
Protect you from all things scary
The wind blows straight to February

BRIDGE:
Brush those tears straight from your eyes
I'll sing a million lullabies
Just go back to sleep
